HCYP SUMMER ALL-STARS

Summer All-Stars takes the best of the best players from 8U, 10U, 12U, and 14U/15U from the Spring rec season to play tournaments over the summer

ELIGIBILITY

Tournament player age eligibility differs slightly from our in-house spring season eligibility. Some players will come from a "league up" due to the May vs. August cut off. All-Star teams use an age cutoff date of 4/30 (compared to HCYP’s cutoff date of 8/31). The following is a breakdown of eligible ages for each group:

  • 8U – born on or after 5/1/2015
  • 10U – born on or after 5/1/2013
  • 12U – born on or after 5/1/2011
  • 14U – born on or after 5/1/2009
  • 15U - born on or after 5/1/2008

TRYOUTS

Tryouts for the 2024 Summer All-Star teams will be held on Sunday May 5th from 6:30-8:30PM for all ages, and if second tryouts are needed they will be held on May 8th from 6:00-8:00PM for 10U, 12U, and 14/15U, and May 9th for 8U.

Tryouts consist of 4 major skills which will be evaluated by our Raiders Travel team coaches.

- Pitching - players will pitch 10-15 pitches to a catcher and are evaluated on accuracy, speed, and ability to throw multiple pitches.

- Fielding / Throwing - players will be on the field while coaches hit them ground balls.  They are evaluted on fielding form, throwing form, and arm strength.

- Hitting - players will be either in the batting cages or on an open field with a coach pitching to them. They are evaluated on quality of contact, form, and power.

OUR TEAMS

HCYP has a history of having some of the most talented and successful Summer All-Star teams in Maryland.  Our goal is to form 2 teams at each age group, Blue and White.

The Blue team is made up of the 12 most talented kids from each age group.  Once those 12 players have been selected, we will determine if the next 12 most talented kids would form a competitive all-star team. If we believe they can be competitive in different tournaments, we will form a White team.

YOUR COMMITMENT

Playing on a Summer All Star team involves a time commitment. Players are expected to participate in the HCYP Invitational tournament held July 12-14, practice a minimum of 2X per week, and participate in other tournaments and games selected by the coaches. Also, families are expected to volunteer to help run the HCYP Invitational tournament.
